The four-line routine

1. Cold cycle

   Wash at 30 °C on a delicate or silk cycle. Hot water swells the silk fibre and dulls the sheen over time.

2. Mesh bag

   A zippered mesh laundry bag keeps the silk from tangling with zips, hooks, and the rest of the load. One bag per garment.

3. Hang dry

   Hang on a padded or wooden hanger, away from direct sunlight. Silk dries fast, usually within two hours indoors.

4. No dry cleaner

   Dry cleaning chemicals break down silk over time. The four-line routine above is all the silk needs, for as long as you own it.

Detergent

A pH-neutral liquid detergent, or any detergent labelled for silk or delicates. Skip fabric softener, it coats the fibre and dulls the sheen. A small amount of white vinegar in the rinse water (about a tablespoon) restores softness if the silk has started to feel stiff.

Stains

Treat stains before the wash. Cold water first, blot, don't rub. For makeup or oil-based marks, a drop of silk-safe detergent worked in gently with a fingertip, then rinsed. Avoid bleach, even oxygen bleach, on coloured silk.

Ironing

Most Sorelle Luna pieces don't need ironing, the weave is chosen to hang smooth. If you do want to press, iron on the reverse side while still slightly damp, on the lowest heat setting, with a cloth between the iron and the silk.

Storage

Store flat or hung on a padded hanger. Cedar blocks or lavender sachets keep moths away without the chemical smell of mothballs. Avoid plastic garment bags for long-term storage, silk needs to breathe.

Our silk is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, tested for harmful substances at every stage of processing, from the raw fibre through to the finished fabric. The certification covers not just the silk itself but the dyes, finishes, and trims used to make it.

Common questions

Can I tumble dry?

No. Tumble drying is the fastest way to break down silk fibres. Hang dry instead, it's faster than you'd think.

What about hand washing?

Hand washing is fine and gentle. Use cool water, a small amount of silk detergent, and don't wring. Roll the wet silk in a clean towel to absorb excess water before hanging.

My silk has a smell after storage. Is that normal?

Silk picks up and releases odours more readily than most fabrics. A gentle cold wash with a tablespoon of white vinegar in the rinse usually clears it.

How long does silk last?

With the four-line routine, a well-made silk sleepwear piece should last ten years or more of regular wear. We've tested it ourselves, the wear pattern shows up at the seams, not in the fabric.
